When working on an interior painting project it usually is not necessary to prime the walls before applying your new paint color. In same cases, like when your trying to cover up a very dark paint color with a light paint color it may be necessary to use a primer. Other than that the most common application for using primer is when you are painting over new drywall. You are most likely to have a lot of drywall to cover if you are taking on a major remodeling project such as a basement finish or a kitchen remodel. If you are planning a similar project and are considering doing the painting yourself the paint and primer in one may be a good fit for you. As a remodeling contractor, I don't use this product because it is not cost effective. However, if time was an issue we would certainly consider it. You will definitely save yourself some time but plan to spend a little extra money to get the results.
